Google Hangouts Has Officially Been Given an Expiration Date

Google Hangouts, the company's most popular chat program to date, is finally being phased out. A recent blog post from the firm officially provides a closure date for consumer Google Hangouts: November 2022. Today is also the day when current Google Hangouts users will be nagged to migrate to Google Chat, the company's new messaging application. Say Goodbye to Google Hangouts Hangouts' downfall has been a long time coming. The service debuted in 2013 as an improvement to Google Talk. Hangouts garnered 5 billion downloads as Android's default messaging service, and at one time, it also handled Android SMS chores, similar to Apple's iMessage. With the advent of Google Allo in 2016, the service fell out of favor with Google's notoriously volatile messaging strategy.
