Gender identity refers to how you feel and identify, it can be as a woman, a man, or both. Gender is usually assigned at birth, based on the external appearance of the baby (genital organs) of either a man or a woman according to the social construction of a binary system of two genders (male or female). If your gender identity matches the gender you were assigned at birth, this is called cisgender. For example, if you were born biologically male and identify as male, you are a cisgender male.
