Gil is the primary currency in FFXIV: A Realm Reborn and can be used to purchase weapons, equipment, houses, furniture, mounts and much more. Players can earn Gil by defeating enemies, opening treasure chests and selling equipment or items. Completing FATEs (fast-paced quests that involve killing numerous enemies in short amount of time) also rewards the player with considerable gil.
