The Federal Emergency Management Agency?s reaction to Hurricane Ian was lauded by President Joe Biden on Thursday. He told the room full of FEMA personnel that they were reviving public confidence in their government. After visiting a FEMA briefing on the hurricane?s destruction in Florida, Biden made a point of speaking to the personnel. He claimed that trust in governmental institutions has been waning during the previous six to ten years. Rebuilding public confidence in the government and its institutions has long been a priority for Biden, and it was a key component of his presidential campaign when he ran against Donald Trump in 2020. In order to prioritize the public interest and put the needs of the general public at the forefront of government operations, Biden signed an executive order during his first year in office that made it simpler for Americans to renew their passports, apply for Social Security, and receive aid after natural disasters.
