Von Willebrand disease (VWD) is an inherited bleeding disorder. VWD patients have an issue with von Willebrand factor (VWF), a protein in their blood that helps regulate bleeding. They either don't have enough protein or it isn't working properly. It takes longer for persons with VWD for blood to coagulate and for bleeding to cease.
