A doctor usually prescribes the Double marker test as part of standard prenatal care during the first trimester. It is a predictive test that determines whether or not the growing foetus has any chromosomal abnormalities. Although the test is suggested for all women, women over 35 are especially advised to have it done because conceiving a baby with genetic abnormalities increases with age.
