Does irritable bowel syndrome cause cancer?

Irritable bowel syndrome is not life-threatening and does not increase the risk of developing other colon diseases such as ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease, or colon cancer. But it can be a life-changing long-term problem. People with IBS may miss work or school more often and may feel less able to participate in daily activities. Some people may need to change their work settings: change to work from home, change their hours, or even not work at all.
