Difference between 2D Seismic surveys and 3D Seismic surveys

3D seismic surveying technique is done by using a systematic grid layout of detectors along with seismic source locations. They collect all of the information from "out of the plane" (which is away from the 2D line) making it possible to process the data of scattering effects. Hence it produces a much clearer picture of what is actually the scene below the earth.
