The Diesel brand has quite an interesting story behind it. The founder of Diesel, Renzo Ross began stitching jeans at the age of fifteen using his mother?s sewing machine to produce low-riding, bell bottomed jeans. He used to wear these himself and sell others to his friends. In 1976 he began working for Moltex, a clothing manufacturer owned by Adriano Goldschmied. He worked here for two years before getting a loan from his father to buy a 40% holding in the company, this is when the company changed its name from Moltex to Diesel. In 1985 Ross bought out the remaining interest in the company owned by Goldschmied for US$500,000 to become the sole owner of the company.
