People with diabetes will most certainly have high blood sugar, which can damage the small blood vessels' walls in your eye. This can change the functioning and the structure of the eye. These vessels may leak, thicken, or even develop clots called microaneurysms. But, in many advanced cases, the retina is in a significant loss of Blood supply, which causes it to grow new but defective vessels.
