Dhanteras as it is popularly known is an auspicious Hindu festival celebrated as the first day of the grand Diwali celebration. It is the Trayodashi of the Krishna Paksha (dark fortnight of the moon) during the auspicious month of Kartik according to the Hindu calendar. Tithi, whereas in the Gregorian calendar it falls in the month of mid-October to November.
