The CRP test quantifies the amount of C reactive proteins in the blood. When there is inflammation or infection anywhere in the body, the body produces C reactive protein. The liver is the primary organ that releases the C reactive protein. This protein circulates in the bloodstream in reaction to an infection or injury. Excess CRP in the circulation may induce swelling and redness in the wounded or infected region.
