When you need to document sales which you can�t (or won�t) fulfill immediately, but you plan to do this in the future, you can�t create an invoice at this time. That is where sales orders also come in. You could will never need to generate a sales order for a client. Maybe you have a service-based business, or you never run out of inventory. Or perhaps you simply don�t enter an order until you know you've got the item(s) in stock.
