Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is a chronic inflammatory lung disease that causes blocked airflow from the lungs. Symptoms include trouble breathing, cough, mucous production, and wheezing. Long-term exposure to irritating chemicals or particulate matter, most commonly cigarette smoke, is the common cause. People with COPD are more likely to develop heart disease, lung cancer, and a number of other illnesses.
