There are generally two kinds of cataract surgery namely phacoemulsification and trabeculectomy. Phacoemulsifying cataract surgery involves a small incision inside the outer covering of the lens. A thin piece of tissue holds the incision together. The ophthalmologist inserts a small, flexible plastic probe into the cloudy lens. The lens is then gently lifted out by the soft tissue and the eye is ready to heal.
