Let’s start with the basics. Everyday items like ceramic plates, stainless steel cutlery, and most glassware are generally safe. These are manufactured to withstand the heat and water pressure typical of dishwasher cycles. Plastic containers labelled “dishwasher safe” can go in too, ideally placed on the top rack to prevent warping. Pots and pans made from stainless steel typically hold up well. Cooking utensils made of silicone or hard plastic also fall into the safe zone.
