The termite queen forms the center of any colony. It is her job to lay thousands of eggs per day, sustain the population, and keep the colony alive. There are queen termites that live up to more than ten years, during which they keep breeding. Due to her significance, the whole colony is to be constructed to ensure her safety in the depths of the nest. In termite colonies, there is usually more than one queen, especially in mature or secondary colonies. This further complicates the eradication of them during a single treatment.
