Bridged nucleic acids (BNA) based on multifunctional synthetic is RNA analogs and can be used in place of the first generation of bridged nucleic acids called locked nucleic acids (LNA). BNA can be incorporated into DNA or RNA to modify the structure of the nucleic acid helix.
