The reason is so simple. Touch screens of most smartphones are made by using a technology called Capacitive Touch screen. These screens are equipped with a type of sensor that reacts only to those things that are electrically conductive. And, our skin is electrically conductive, that is why the screen doesn't sense an input while wearing an ordinary glove.
