The first boarding school in Dehradun, St. Joseph?s College, was founded by the Capuchin Fathers in 1842, which marks the beginning of the city?s boarding school history. Initially serving the requirements of the Catholic community in the area, the school quickly gained a reputation among students from other parts of the nation. Academic, spiritual, and physical growth were all emphasized as part of the comprehensive education offered by the school. The growth and expansion of boarding schools in Dehradun were greatly influenced by the British Raj. The British built several prestigious boarding schools in Dehradun during their rule, including The Doon School, Welham Girls? School, and St. George?s College, to name a few. These schools provided a British-style education that emphasized academic excellence, character development, and discipline.
