The echo sounder detects the echoes bounced off underwater features and calculated the distance to the identified characteristic. Then, as part of a bathymetric survey, highly accurate GNSS systems (GPS) link each measurement to its corresponding depth on the surveying map. Next, an elevated model is constructed from the data collected from the boat.
