Manufacturers of lubricating greases, motor oils, and metal-processing fluids use base oils to create their products. Varied products call for different oil compositions and qualities. Base oils for industrial lubricants can be divided into two groups: synthetic and mineral oils. Base oils are a component of all lubricants. Mineral oils are not recommended for such applications; instead, use synthetic oils like PAOs. Since PAOs exhibit more hydraulic stability and remissibility than mineral oil, they are also better able to control water pollution. However, due to their good serviceability and comparably lower costs, mineral oils are more often favoured. They are extensively employed in the industrial and automotive sectors; with over 90% usage, mineral oil has established itself as the market leader in the majority of applications.
