In mid 1850 the town Los Gatos was incorporated with the formation of a flour mill operation. The museum near the main street still has the mills two storey stone storage annex. Originally the settlement in this town was named for the mill, however, after the Spanish land grant, the name was changed to Las Gatos. This town has a population of 29,413 people according to the United State Census 2010.
