It is due to a spelling mistake that the city came to be known as Dixon. Back in 1865, the population of the city was a mere 150 people. After that, the community started developing and things started flourishing. The city was developed during the Goldrush. Originally the place was named as Dickson Ville after the Thomas Dickson who gave acres of land as a donation to build the railroad.
