A medical condition that damages the optic nerve is called glaucoma or increased intraocular tension in medical parlance. Glaucoma refers to a group of eye conditions that can damage the optic nerve. This damage is caused by intraocular (eye) pressure. There is no age limit for glaucoma. Glaucoma can affect anyone at any age, but most often occurs in people over the age of 60. That is, the risk of glaucoma in people over 60 years of age is higher than in others.
