Macular Degeneration, also known as Age Related Macular Degeneration(AMD), is a condition that blurs the central vision. The macula (the part of the eye that is responsible for sharp and clear vision) can be damaged by aging or any other factor. AMD is the leading cause of visual impairment among older adults. It may not lead to blindness, but it can make it difficult for you to read, drive, or do household chores like fixing things in your home. Degeneration can happen very slowly for some and much more quickly for others. Early AMD can cause no vision loss. Regular eye checkups are important to detect AMD.
