Automation of tunnel shaft elevators

The Gleinalm Tunnel on the Pyhrnautobahn A9 connects the districts of Leoben and Graz-Umwelt in Austria. Two exhaust air shafts are distributed over a length of 8.3 km and reach down more than 300 m into the mountain. In order to be able to maintain them and assess the state of the shaft, in 1980Elevators built into the shafts. After a good four decades of operation, the shaft elevators were to be converted and brought up to the latest technical standards.
