Ashwagandha is a small shrub with a height of around 1 - 5 feets. Dry roots of Ashwagandha smells like that of a horse and a Horse is known as Ashwa in Sanskrit, which is why the drug is named as Ashwagandha. It is majorly found in the areas of Maharashtra, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Punjab. How is Ashwagandha known in your area? In Hindi speaking States Ashwagandha is known as asgandha. In Bengal, it is called as Ashwagandha. In Telugu speaking States, it is called as paneru. In the areas of Gujarat, It is known as Aasandh.
