Ashtanga Yoga is built on the basic series, commonly known as Yoga Chikitsa or Yoga Therapy. It focuses on cleansing and aligning the body, purifying the neurological system, and strengthening and stretching the muscles. The primary series is a set of postures that flow fluidly from one to the next, synchronising breath with movement. By practising the fundamental series, practitioners build a strong physical and mental foundation that will serve them well in the future series.
