Antimicrobial Medical-Grade Chitosan

Chitolytic Chitosan01 Mar, 2023Other

Chitosan has been found to have a broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity against various types of bacteria, viruses, and fungi. The antimicrobial activity is thought to be due to the positively charged amino groups in the chitosan molecule, which can interact with negatively charged microbial cell membranes and disrupt their structure, leading to cell death. Medical-grade chitosan has been shown to be effective against a wide range of bacteria, including both gram-positive and gram-negative strains. It has also been shown to be effective against viruses such as HIV, herpes simplex virus, and influenza virus, as well as fungi such as Candida albicans.
