Antibiotic Bone Cement and Casting Materials

Sharvaricmi22 Feb, 2022News

Bone cement is a substance that is used to secure joint implants to the bone. Plexiglas, a polymer-based material made up of poly-methyl-methacrylate (PMMA) or co-polymers, is used to make chemical bone cement. Infection is a serious issue during orthopaedic surgery, which necessitates the use of antibacterial bone cements. Casting materials are used to stabilise bones that have been shattered or wounded. Around the shattered bone, these materials operate as a supporting wrap or bandage. Plasters and fibreglass are the most frequent types of casting materials used in antibacterial bone cement, and they come in a variety of shapes and sizes.
