A rare medical condition caused a 69-year-old woman's fingers to scrunch back into her hands as the bones of her hand and wrist steadily disappeared. The bone loss led the fingers to buckle back into her hand, similar to the segments of a collapsing telescope. This is a distinct symptom that explains the unusual condition "telescoping fingers." Around 3.7% to 6.7% of people with psoriatic arthritis develop telescoping fingers; however, the condition also occurs in people with rheumatoid arthritis (RA), but even more rarely. This rare case was published in the New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM).
