Ammonium hydrogen is used as a reagent in the chemical industry. It is an active ingredient used in the manufacture of fire extinguishers, medicines, dyes, pigments and fertilizers. It finds application in the plastics, ceramics, leather and rubber industries. It is also used in cooling baths, limescale and plaster removers, leavening agents for baked goods and degreasers for textiles. Additionally, it acts as a buffer for purification of chemicals. Among other things, it is also involved in the gel digestion of proteins by trypsin and the mass spectrometry analysis of proteins.
