HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) and AIDS (Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome) are related but distinct conditions. Causes: HIV is caused by the transmission of bodily fluids such as blood, semen, vaginal secretions, and breast milk from an infected person to another person. Symptoms: HIV symptoms may not appear for several years after initial infection, but they can include flu-like symptoms such as fever, fatigue, headache, and muscle aches. AIDS symptoms can include frequent infections, fatigue, weight loss, diarrhea, and fever. As the immune system is severely compromised, opportunistic infections and cancers can occur. Prevention: Preventing HIV and AIDS involves avoiding exposure to bodily fluids from infected persons. This can be achieved through practicing safe sex, using condoms, not sharing needles or injection equipment, and avoiding exposure to contaminated blood.
