Malpighia emarginata (acerola) is a shrub or small tree. When ripe, the fruit looks like a cherry and is red in colour. It contains a lot of vitamin C. Beta-carotene, lutein, thiamine, riboflavin, niacin, pyridoxine, folic acid, and pantothenic acid are among the minerals and vitamins found in acerola. Acerola is a popular supplement for preventing vitamin C insufficiency. It's also used to treat the common cold, diarrhoea, and other ailments, however there's no scientific proof to back up these claims.
