In November 2019, the government of Australia introduced a Global Talent Independent Program (GTI) to attract highly talented professionals from targeted sectors to Australia. The program was launched with only 5,000 intakes for the 2019-2020 program. However, the government decided to increase the intake to 15,000 under the 2020-2021 budget. Additionally, the Australian government also announced that they would focus on inviting applicants under the following immigration categories:
