FR4 is a material used to make printed circuit boards. FR4 materials are flame retardant and therefore ideal for use in printed circuit boards. They can also be reinforced with glass fibers and laminated with epoxy resins. Some of the advantages of using FR4 as a primary material include its superior mechanical strength and its ability to act as an electrical insulator. FR4 epoxy panels are laminated with thin layers of copper foil. For this reason, these glass fiber reinforced laminates are sometimes referred to as copper-clad laminates. Boards using FR4 material can provide high performance in applications.
