The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is a national scheme designed to provide support and services for people with significant and permanent disabilities. It is the responsibility of the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) to decide who can access the NDIS by determining eligibility. As mandated by the NDIS Act, the NDIA must obtain reliable and consistent information about an individual?s functional abilities. This involves information about the type of disability, whether it is permanent and the extent to which it affects the daily life of that person. This enables the NDIA to make precise and prompt decisions regarding a person?s eligibility to access the NDIS. Prospective NDIS participants are required to provide evidence of their disability as part of the NDIS access requirement. Good evidence should be recent and provided by a relevant treating health professional who can confirm your primary disability.
