After a sclerotherapy procedure, it’s common to notice small lumps or areas of discoloration around the treated veins. This occurs when a bit of blood remains inside the closed vein, a harmless event known as trapped blood. While it may appear as firm bumps or faint red-brown or blue lines under the skin, it typically resolves on its own as the body gradually absorbs the blood. Unlike blood clots—which are often painful, warm, and associated with swelling—trapped blood is usually only mildly tender and temporary, with the area improving over time.
