Alexander the Great was an ancient Macedonian ruler who conquered an empire that stretched from Greece to India. He was a powerful leader who believed in divine destiny and was determined to create a united world under a single government. Alexander was born in 356 BC. He was the son of King Philip II of Macedon and Olympias of Epirus. He was trained in war under the tutelage of the famous philosopher Aristotle. When Alexander succeeded his father as King of Macedonia, he was only twenty years old. He soon set out to realize his ambition of conquering the world. In 334 BC he led his army across the Hellespont into Asia Minor.
