Attorney Manuel A. Segarra, III (Known by friends and colleagues as “Manny”) was born and raised on the north side of Chicago, Illinois. Manny attended Loyola University Chicago, where he graduated in 1997 with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and a Minor in Spanish Literature. Manny went on to study at the University of Illinois College of Law, obtaining his Juris Doctor in the year 2000. Later that year, Manny was recruited by the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office, moved to Miami, was admitted to the Florida Bar and became a Prosecutor. He worked for over eight (8) years at the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office. Manny focused his career there primarily on the prosecution of Domestic Violence cases and advocating on behalf of abuse victims. In 2004, he was promoted to the Chief of Litigation in the Domestic Crimes Unit. Then in 2006, he was elevated to Chief of the Domestic Crimes Unit in the County Court Division. Here, he directly supervised over thirty (30) prosecutors and twenty (20) support staff. During his decorated tenure at the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office, he prosecuted cases which included homicide, attempted homicide, manslaughter, capital sexual battery, kidnapping, arson, stalking and child abuse. Manny has tried over thirty (30) jury trials and over fifty (50) bench trials/probation violation hearings during his career at the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office.
